75 year old attends Grand Lodge University Conference
The University of Birmingham Lodge 5628, which was consecrated on 31st October 75 years ago, was the second to join the ever increasing ranks of the University Scheme, initiated by the Assistant Grand Master, RW Bro David Williamson in 2005, the first being Apollo University Lodge 357 of Oxford. Details of the Scheme can be seen at www.ugle.org.uk/how-to-become-a-mason/university-section/
The Master of the Lodge W Bro Ron Parker, accompanied by hard working Secretary W Bro Clive Neal-Sturgess attended a conference at Freemasons Hall, Great Queen Street, London held specifically to discuss the progress and possible improvements of the scheme. Most of the 40 or more participating Lodges were represented.
They were personally greeted as representatives of their Lodge by the Assistant Grand Master and co-ordinators of the scheme, including W Bro Stephen Tucker, whose comments about how well they were performing in their role were taken very kindly.
Ron and Clive were introduced to the Grand Secretary, RW Bro Nigel Brown after his introductory speech to the delegates, and took the opportunity to have a photographic record made whilst standing in front of the Grand Master’s Chair on the dais in the Grand Lodge Temple.
The Lodge celebrates its 75th Birthday at its 300th meeting to be held at The Clarendon Suites, Stirling Road, Edgbaston on Monday 28th November at 5.30pm.
All masons, whether linked to the University through education or work, or just keen to visit, are cordially invited to attend the meeting at which there will be a double raising ceremony and a presentation to the Lodge of masonic artefacts from a Cheltenham Lodge.
