On Friday 8th April 85 members, wives and friends of Athelstan Lodge No 1333 embarked on a “week-end away” to the York Marriott Hotel, led by their Worshipful Master, W Bro David Evans and his wife Karen all had an excellent time. The group experienced a great couple of days at a super hotel with good food, a lovely City a few minutes away and great weather. The sun shone all the time they were there.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and joined in the fun, mixed with each other, whilst sampling a few beers and lots of wine! A race night on the Friday evening was a prelude to the Grand National on Saturday, which raised £803.00 for charity on the night, with more to come from the sponsorship money for the races.
On the Saturday evening, after a day in York, or just recuperating, an informal Ladies Evening was held with a few speeches and songs and entertainment from the Lodge's own resident Comedian - yes the Worshipful Master.
The Lodge Secretary, Brian Whitmore commented, "The charity collection added to the previous night’s monies meant we raised a total of £2176.00 over the week-end, for Mary Ann Evans and St Giles, our two local Hospice. A magnificent effort. A big thank you goes to all who bought tickets, played the horses, sponsored races and gave back their winnings. In all a thoroughly enjoyable, well supported couple of days, where everyone had a good time and a considerable amount of money was raised for Charity."
