The Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro David Macey has expressed the wish that all Masonic meeting places in Warwickshire are equipped with a Defibrillator. A Defibrillator is a machine that delivers an electric shock to the heart when someone is having a cardiac arrest. They are frequently known as AEDs (automated external defibrillators), and can be seen in many places throughout the country, including airports, shopping centres, theatres etc.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service has agreed to carry out the training for the Province, and will bring the Defibrillator unit with them when the training is carried out at each location. Contacts have been established at all meeting places, who will nominate those who are to receive training. The Ambulance Service will arrange as many courses as required by each centre, and will be in touch with each individual centre to arrange training. The training incorporates cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which is a lifesaving technique that greatly increases the survival rate of cardiac arrest victims. This technique will already be known to many, and forms a major part of the training.
