Maintenance Team member Keith Franklin particularly wanted the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity to benefit this year, as he and his wife Sue have experienced at firsthand the invaluable support the charity is able to provide when Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over three years ago.

Keith and Sue along with their son Ben, a chef at the Clarendon Suites, and fellow Maintenance Team member Tony Young set about organising this year’s terrific evening of live family entertainment which took place at the end of July. With more than 300 people turning up to support the event, well over £1600 was raised on the night.

Guests were treated to some Rock ‘n’ Roll classics performed by the group Shindig who kindly offered their services after hearing about the Help for Heroes event held last year; pop-reggae band Icon sang a selection of UB40 hits, and Keith, along with son Ben and daughter Emily and their band Broken Myth entertained one and all with a set of modern rock songs, whilst a DJ ensured everyone got up on to the floor to dance the night away. Younger guests too had a fun filled evening which included professional face painting and some captivating close-up magic.

The staff are already discussing plans for another event next summer when they hope to improve on this year’s success and raise even more for their chosen charity.
