An Installation with a difference at Loyal Travellers
Updated: Feb 17
Saturday 15th February saw the annual Installation at Loyal Travellers Lodge, but this time it was different. There is an unwritten rule in the Province that a Ruler (Provincial Grand Master, Deputy & Assistants) does not Preside at an Installation in his own Lodge. For the first time in his own Lodge, the Provincial Grand Master decided to break with that tradition, and act as Presiding Officer as the conclusion of his tenure approaches.
He was joined by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, VW Bro Chris Rogers, all four of the Assistant PGMs, and the current Provincial Grand Wardens. Apart from Provincial Grand Lodge and Installed Masters meetings, this is probably the first time this has occurred in a private Lodge. The team were joined by a good number of Acting Officers to create a full Lodge room at Knowle, for what was a very memorable occasion.
You might imagine that this would make the Installing Master and Master Elect somewhat nervous but not in the least. After having completed Lodge business, W Bro Jason Adderley as Installing Master undertook an outstanding demonstration of just how an Installation should be performed. Bro John Ville was installed in splendid manner and took over in great style once the Lodge was under his control. Two columns of Master Masons were readmitted to the Lodge, much to the envy of many of the visitors who would like to see as many up and coming members in their own Lodges.
The whole evening, including the convivial festive board, was conducted in a very friendly relaxed and competent manner, much to the satisfaction of the Provincial Grand Master, who of course had given the address to the new Worshipful Master.
Thanks must be extended to W Bro Mike Perrott, Secretary, for organising a splendid evening, including his rendition of the Master’s song. Thanks also to W Bro Suresh Modi, Visiting Officer, for the photograph below. Thanks to everyone who attended, to make this a very special evening for all concerned.
